Galway will aim to put an end to Cork’s dominance when the two counties meet in the Aisling McGing U21 Ladies Football Final in Askeaton, Limerick on Sunday at 2pm. Cork are one of only two counties to ever win the Aisling McGing Cup, Dublin are the other, and they have contested all but one final. This is Galway’s first appearance in the final. The competition has changed since last year as it has become an Under 21 competition for players that are inelligible for minor grade but under the age of 21. The new format of the competition allows players that that have not yet become part of the senior county panel the opportunity to play a higher level of football to bridge the gap from minor football. The Aisling McGing cup is dedicated to the memory of Aisling McGing who died tragically on July 19th, 2003 after a road traffic accident. Aisling who was 18 had represented her club and county with distinction winning an All Ireland Club title with Carnacon and an All Ireland title with Mayo. The first Aisling McGing Cup was presented to the winners, Cork in 2007.
