Munster’s Gaelic4Mothers and Others come out in force

Last Saturday saw 225 women participate in the Annual Munster Gaelic4Mothers + Others Blitz in Mourneabbey. For the third year in a row Mourneabbey was the venue for this blitz and great credit must go to all involved in Clyde Rovers GAA club and the Mourneabbey Ladies Football club for making the facilities available despite the terrible weather in the days leading up to the blitz. The pitches were in perfect condition and the mood of all players as they arrived was one of excitement and a little apprehension. For some it was their first time to ever wear a pair of football boots and to play an organised game.

Above: Auntie of the Brogan Boys of Dublin kept the Sky Blue on Show in Munster Blitz.

With 20 teams in total from 16 different sites from 4 different counties this was a great social event. Each team played 4 games matches against other sites that had been set up around the same length of time. Referees from Cork volunteered on the day and the pitches were coordinated by the very capable George Young, Dan O’Mahony, Mary Corry and Tara Ryan. The Munster President Brian Enright spoke with each team and thanked them for attending and encouraged them to continue to be involved in the programme.

As quietness descended on Mourneabbey at approximately 3.00pm on Saturday buses and cars departed full of smiles, points scorers, goal scorers, great defenders and a few weary bones!!

A media ban then came into force for the post blitz celebrations.

Here’s hoping they will all be back again next year!
