Banner Ladies Football Club Press Release

2008 has been one of the most successful years in the relatively short history of the Banner Ladies Football Club. The early year trials and tribulations of being evicted from the Banner GAA Club were quickly put to one side as the club strove to make its mark on the football fields of Clare and beyond.

At year’s end the club will celebrate winning its first ever senior successes in Clare through the winning of the Clare Senior League and the Clare Senior Championship for the first time ever. Add in the clubs annexing of the Clare Eleven A Side Championship and its appearance in the All Ireland Intermediate Club Seven A Side Championship and one can appreciate the progress that is happening at the club.

At underage the Banner Ladies Football Club has also maintained its high achievement record in winning the Clare A Championship titles at U- 12, U-16 and Minor grades. The club’s U-14 team also won the Clare Féile Championship and had the honour of representing Clare at the All Ireland Féile Championships held in Co. Cavan last July.

Next Saturday night in the West County will thus be an evening of huge celebration for the Ennis club as players from all age groups will assemble to be presented with their coveted county championship medals. The club is also proud that members Louise Henchy and Niamh O’Dea captained the Clare County team at Intermediate and U-16 grades and brought significant silverware home to the county with Louise securing the Suzuki National League trophy and the Munster Intermediate Cup while Niamh led Clare to All Ireland U-16 success.

All Banner Ladies Club roads will lead to the West County Hotel in Ennis next Saturday for what should be a night of huge celebration for the club.
