Cork look set for 6 in a row

Cork look set for 6 in a row
By Fr Liam Kelleher

Cork look set for an unprecedented 6 in a row, Munster titles, when they take on old rivals Kerry in the Munster Final at Bruff Co Limerick on Saturday at 7.15. Bruff has been a happy hunting ground for Cork, on Sunday last the under 14’s won their 6th All-Ireland in this decade so “six appeal” seems to be the in phrase right now, for Cork ladies Football. On all known form Cork should collect another title on Sunday, they were very impressive against Dublin in the League Semi Final and in regaining the Bord Gas league title against Mayo, they were awesome. They might well remember that prior to those games they lost 2 games to the Dubs and Monaghan, in the league. Kerry must be treated with respect, because they have the ability and fighting spirit to cause an upset. The question one might ask is Cork’s insatiable hunger still there? There is little doubt that it is, these girls are every bit as eager, to garner this title, as they were for their lst. What a marvelous bunch of ambassadors for the Co but they have had little game support from the Cork public. Bruff is a relatively short journey so please please Cork suppporters travel to see them play. Cork selector Justin McCarthy, is in no doubt that this will be a tough game, every game must be regarded as a tough game. He told me most of Cork’s injury worries are not as bad a feared, but there are a number of girls, who have been iinjured but are training, but may not be match fit yet. Laura McMahon has recovered well from a cruciate knee ligament operation and Linda Barrett has fully recovered form a knee cartilage operation. The news for Roisin O’Sullivan is not so good, she faces the prospect of a knee cruciate ligament operation. This type of injury is a major worrry, with so many players, getting this very serious injury. Amy O’Shea has recovered from 2 and is going great guns again. Cork Panel Elaine Harte, Rena Buckley, Angela Walsh, Linda Barrett Geraldine O’Flynn, Brid Stack, Briege Corkery, Juliet Murphy, Notria Kelly Nollaig Cleary, Mary O’Connor capt, Rhona Buckley, Valerie Mulcahy, Ciara O’Sullivan Deirdre O’Reilly. Glanmire and District Award.

Congratulations to Cork Keeper Elaine Harte ,who received the Monthly Glanmire and District Sports award spnsored by the Fitzgeralds Vienna Woods Hotel. The award was presented at a very pleasant function at the hotel on Tueday last, the long serving Cork keeper was a really worthy recipient of the award.

Feile Peil n Og.
