Dennehy named as new Kerry Ladies captain.

By Murt Murphy.

As well as a new management team , the Kerry ladies
senior footballers will have a new captain for
the 2005 season and she has been named as Patrice
Dennehy, from Laune Rangers who plays on the forty
for Kerry.

Patrice is no stranger to the captaincy position,
having captained the 2004 County Champions, St.
Pat’s, she has also captained teams in the colleges
scene and was captain of the Winning Inter-provincial
Munster Team in 2004. Patrice is a final year
student in UL and she was selected by the clubs
that make up the county champions St Pats with
vice captain for the year being Katie Gleeson
from Dr. Crokes.

Meanwhile Kerry Ladies football gets off the ground
next weekend with both senior and junior team
in action in the first round of the Suzuki national
league. The senior team are out on Saturday 29
playing arch rivals Cork. The senior team under
new management of Sean Casey, Dr Alan Ringland
and Margaret O Connor. Both Sean and Alan have
been involved with IT Tralee over the past number
of years. Margaret O Connor is a former Kerry
player winning an All Ireland medal in 1976.

The new management have a good knowledge of the
present senior panel through their involvement
with the college scene and their interest in the
schools and county scene.

Also next Sunday Kerry Juniors are away to Waterford
in the first round to the Suzuki National League.
This team play in Division 3 B. Last year they
progressed to the quarter finals and are hoping
for the same commitment that will progress further
in the coming year.. The team will be captained
by Denise Shanahan, from Abbeydorney. Abbeydorney
won Junior A Championship 2004 and went on to
win the All Ireland Club Championship, a great
achievement by this tiny rural club. On this junior
team there are a number of players with the potential
to make the senior team. The junior team management
for 2005 are Jerry O Mahony, James Doran, John
O Connor and Anne O Connor.
