Down goalkeeper Shannon O’Reilly wins inaugural ‘Lidl Breaks Moment of the Month award’

DOWN goalkeeper Shannon O’Reilly has won the very first ‘Lidl Breaks Moment of the Month’ award.

Shannon’s brilliant double-save against Roscommon topped the poll after votes were tallied across the LGFA’s social media channels.

Shannon was in the running for the award alongside Cork’s Orla Finn, who scored the first point by a Cork senior player at Páirc Uí Chaoimh, Galway’s Ailbhe Davoren, who netted a cracking goal against Dublin, and Tipperary’s Aishling Moloney, who lofted over a stunning equalising point against Dublin in Round 1 of the 2020 Lidl NFL.

But it was Shannon’s shot-stopping heroics that caught the eye of voters, and she took almost 44 per cent of the combined vote, with a very strong showing on the LGFA’s Instagram page in particular helping her across the line.

This new initiative showcased selected moments from the opening four rounds of the 2020 Lidl National Leagues, covering the opening round in January, and the month of February.

Social media users were encouraged to vote for their favourite moment across the LGFA’s main social media channels by clicking on the preferred link below (Twitter/Facebook/Instagram).

Voting remained open until this morning, and Shannon will now receive a Lidl Breaks two-night hotel stay and dinner for two.

Voting will open later this month for the ‘Lidl Breaks Moment of the Month’ award for March.
