Dublin Appoints Senior Manager The Dublin Ladies Football County Board is pleased to formally announce the appointment of Gerry McGill as the new Dublin Senior Ladies Football Manager. McGill, a B.A (Hons.) graduate of University College Dublin and native of Donegal is a former senior inter-county footballer, and member of the UCD Sigerson Cup Team. He received a resounding endorsement when formally ratified by delegates attending the Dublin Ladies Football Annual Convention in Áras Átha Cliath, Parnell Park on Tuesday evening last. McGill brings with him a wealth of coaching and managerial experience, acquired at all levels in both men’s and ladies codes of the game, as he now takes over at the highest level in Dublin. Gerry spent 2 years as Senior Ladies Football Manager in Laois and conducted several coaching assignments with Mayo Senior Ladies Gaelic Football Team. Gerry coached the All-Ireland Combined Colleges Ladies Gaelic Football Team over a two year period. His own personal sporting career as a senior inter-county footballer in both Donegal and Carlow, together with his coaching experience in UCD, puts him in an ideal position to assume the challenge of leading the Dubs to future success. “I have coached numerous Dublin players throughout the years during my coaching assignments at universities, minor and Club level. A tactical game plan and playing style will be implemented and training will be geared to putting this plan in place” explains Gerry. Congratulating the newly appointed manager, Co. Board Chairperson, John Hillery informed delegates of the very positive impression Gerry McGill made on the members of the Dublin Managerial Appointments Committee. “It is my pleasure, as Co. Board Chairperson, to join with our newly appointed Executive Committee in congratulating Gerry on his appointment as Dublin Senior Ladies Football Manager. His coaching credentials, managerial experience and focused approach are the precise combination of qualities Dublin now seeks. The Board is delighted with the appointment and is confident Gerry McGill is the ideal candidate to create the environment whereby future success will be achieved” explained John. Gerry has already assembled a formidable managerial support team which will focus on various tactical aspects of the rapidly evolving game in addition to keeping a watchful eye on player welfare issues. Further details of the backroom team will be announced shortly. In a function in a south Dublin hotel, the newly appointed manager was formally introduced to an invited gathering of 68 players – all potential eligible candidates to compete at senior inter-county for Dublin. A positive and enthusiastic atmosphere prevailed, as Board Officers, Pat Ring and Development Officer, Fionnuala Sexton exuding confidence in their respective presentations that Dublin is on the cusp of greater achievements. “One only has to look to the organised structure at underage level in Dublin, where winning All-Ireland titles has almost become the norm in recent years” explained a positive and upbeat Co.
