Dublin Ladies Weekly Notes

It was great to have so many fixtures played on the first weekend in March! 28 games took place over the weekend, that’s about 850 girls out playing football. This was a tremendous effort on the part of the Clubs, Mentors & Fixtures Co-Ordinators and Referees – and as a bonus, the sun was shining!

Well done to both Dublin County teams on wins this weekend. The Under 16s started their campaign with a win over rivals Meath in Clann Mhuire on Saturday. The Seniors took on the “Kingdom” and put 3 points into the bag in Naomh Mearnóg. The BORD GÁIS Senior League Table reads;

Because the next County Board meeting is due to happen on the eve of St Patrick’s Day, the Executive Committee have decided to push forward the date to Tuesday 23rd March.

County Board Meeting on Tuesday 23rd March

Dublin will play Monaghan at home [Naomh Mearnóg] in the Bord Gáis Senior League – round 5 – next weekend. The tentative arrangements are for Throw-in at 4pm on Saturday 13th March. The Men will play the Monaghan lads in Parnell Park later that evening, so there will be plenty of time to get in both games.

Dublin Under 14s open their season with a home fixture against Kildare also on next Saturday, venue and time to be decided. Final details for both Dublin games will be advised when confirmed.
A number of Clubs have “A” & “B” teams playing in the same age groups. To comply with the County Bye-Law, the County Secretary needs to have a team list for the first 18 of the “A” team. A form has been circulated which should be returned where applicable

The Under 10 Committee has met and a draft proposal for fixtures is being considered. We will have more news on the Under 10s shortly.

The Under 9 Committee will meet on Tuesday next and begin the process of putting together a proposal for the County Board on 23rd March next.

Around the Clubs:
Raheny are planning something special for Mother’s Day, the ad says “Drop her off at 11am and collect her at 2pm (after you’ve cleaned the house, peeled the vegetables and set the table)….Bring her home and spoil her for the rest of the day….We will look after her from 11-2.” The menu looks good too with mention of Buck’s Fizz and Smoked Salmon. – Nice one Raheny!

St Sylvester’s are ‘getting the show back on the road’ with a Fundraising Quiz Night next Friday 12th. Best wishes on this and the coming season.

Ballymun Kickhams are producing a book on the history of their Club. Lots of information and photographs have come in and this is being sorted to make a really worthwhile read. Good luck with it and make sure to have a section on the Ladies Team!
