East Cork u16 Ladies Football League Final

East Cork u16 Ladies Football League Final

Erins Own 7.09 Bride Rovers 3.08

Erins Own emerged victorious in the east Cork u 16 league final
played at Caherlag on Sunday morning. A fifteen minute spell in
the first half which saw Erins Own rattle in 6 goals was the principal
difference between two very determined teams. Bride Rovers opened
the brighter side and registered the first point courtesy of Grace
Kearney following a superb tip over from keeper, Fiona Smiddy.
Erins Own quickly replied through the boot of Marissa O’Callaghan
who gave the Bride Rvs defence all sorts of problems in the first
half. The Bride Rovers girls took the lead when a high ball in
from Anne Marie Carey caught the Erins Own keeper off guard and
the ball landed in the net.

The match was decided between the 6th and 21st minute when slack
marking from the Bride Rvs defenders allowed Marissa O’Callaghan
& Niamh O’Keeffe to rattle in six goals without reply. The
Bride Rvs girls were failing to find their player and much of
the hard earned possession that they enjoyed through good work
from players like Karen O’Leary, Grace Kearney & Martha O’Donovan
was wasted by the inside forward line. Erins Own, on the other
hand, worked the ball well out of defence with good work from
Leah O’Halloran, Sandra Dooley and Aisly Wall. Probing runs from
Lisa Dennehy and Maeve Clayton saw the latter rewarded when on
the 29th minute she won a penalty which was converted by Marissa
O’Callaghan.

Erins Own U-16 Champions

Bride Rovers opened the second half in whirlwind fashion
and Laura Murphy had the ball in the net on the 41st minute. Great
play from Grace Kearney in midfield and centre forward Martha O’Donovan
saw the Bride Rvs girls begin to claw away at the Erins Own lead.
Sarah Barry at full forward for Bride Rvs picked off two well taken
points but Niamh O’Keeffe & Lisa Dennehy replied in kind for Erins
Own. One of the best scores of the game came courtesy of Grace Kearney
when she caught a ball dropped in from the left wing by Sinead Walsh.
Showing great control despite the attention of a number of Erins Own
defenders Kearney crashed the ball to the roof of the Erins Own net.
Despite a never say die attitude from the Bride Rovers it was a little
too late and the Erins Own girls ultimately ran out deserving winners.
