Galway Complete League Campaign with 100% Record

Kerry v Galway - TESCO HomeGrown Ladies National Football League Division 2 Final

Galway 2-10   Cavan  2-08 The Supermacs sponsored Galway ladies maintained their 100% record in Div 2 of the NFL but were given a big scare by Cavan in Tuam on Sunday. In very difficult conditions for football with a very strong wind blowing the length of the pitch Cavan started the game with the wind and notched up the first 2 points, both frees by no 19 Bronagh Sheridan.

Galway were finally off the mark in the 13th min when Roisin Leonard pointed and she followed this in the 18th min by a goal. A fine Sheridan point, this one from her left boot kept Cavan in the game and this was followed by a Gillian O Connor point for Galway. Another Sheridan free was followed by a Charlotte Cooney point to keep Galway ahead but two more points by Bronagh Sheridan brought Cavan level and left the half time score at Galway 1-03   Cavan 0-06.

An Eilish Gannon point put Galway ahead in the 1st min of the 2nd half but another Sheridan free leveled the sides up again.Cavan were coping better playing against the wind and were begining to cause Galway problems at the back and from 1 of these attacks they won a free. The Galway backs could only parry the ball clear and the Cavan no 14 Geraldine Sheridan  punched the ball to the net to give them a 3 point lead. Galway clawed themselves level with 2 points from Leonard  and one from Annette Clarke but were reduced to 14 players in the 24th min when Ger Conneally received a yellow card.

A brillant piece of skill in the 26th minute by Roisin Leonard saw her glide pass 2 Cavan backs before finding Eilish Gannon who fisted the ball to the back of the net. Leonard pointed a free in the 29th min and this was followed by a Barbara Hannon point to give Galway the advantage in the closing minutes. Roisin Leonard pointed another free for Galway in injury time but Cavan added a point by Aishling Sheridan while Bronagh Sheridan dispatched a penalty as the last act of the game. F-T Score Galway 2-10  Cavan  2-08.
