Galway maintain 100% Record

 

It is 3 wins from 3 games for Galway in the Tesco Home Grown NFL Division 2 as they easily accounted for Kildare in Hawkfield on Sunday. Last year saw little between both teams with the corresponding game ending in a draw and only a point seperating them in the league semi-final. This year Galway started well and had a 4 point lead with points from Lorna Joyce, Annette Clarke, Aoibheann Daly and Roisin Leonard before Kildare got their 1st point by Grace Clifford.

 

Another Leonard point for Galway and one for Kildare by Elaine Dillion kept the scoreboard ticking over but then the Galway Ladies increased the pressure and 2 Clarke points and a goal by Barbara Hannon increased their lead. Grace Clifford added another point for Kildare and a Roisin Leonard free closed the half to leave Galway with a  1-08 to 0-03 lead.

 

Roisin Leonaed fired 2 more points over for Galway at the start of the 2nd half but the difficult conditions made scores hard to come by and it was the 10th min before there was another attempt at a score. A brillant run by Maria Moolick ended in a great save by Galway goalkeeper Johanna Connolly and it was the 15th min before the white flag was raised again, this time Lorna Joyce firing over.

 

A free by Kildare’s Elaine Dillon added to their scores but in 25th min came another Galway goal. A free for Kildare was intercepted by Aoibheann Daly who found Roisin Leonard and she crossed to Una Carroll who found the back of the net. A Carroll point followed and 2 from Annette Clarke and one from Aoibheann Daly meant that the girls from the west finished the game on a score of 2-15 to 0-05. Next up for Galway is an away game against Clare on Sunday.
