Girls u14 Wicklow Feile

The semi finals and finals of the Wicklow Feile were played on Sunday in Carnew. The teams that made it through the group stages last week were Arklow Geraldines, Baltinglass, Coolkenno and St Pat’s.

Semi Finals

The first semi final was between Arklow and Baltinglass. The first half was a fierce contest between two very determined sides. Arklow used the wind to their advantage and got onto to scoreboard first with a well worked point, they scored a goal and 3 more points and were leading at half time by 1-4 to no score. Baltinglass had the breeze in their favour and played some great football, they got two points on the board and Arklow’s defence had to work to keep out any further scores. The Geraldines scored another goal and point to book their place in the final.

The other semi final were played between Coolkenno and St Pats. This was a very even match and with 10 minutes to go the scores were level. Coolkenno had some very tough encounters last week in the group stages and this seem to be no different. St Pats played in the final last year and were determined to do so again, their county players played excellent and were well supported by their team mates. Things turned Coolkenno’s way as they scored a point, with a goal to follow. St Pat’s did not give up and were unlucky not to score again. Coolkenno finished the match with another goal to book their place in the final.

Final – Arklow Geraldines Ballymoney v Coolkenno

The conditions were perfect for football with a slight breeze blowing across the field. Arklow won the toss and elected to play with the breeze in the first half. This worked in their favour and they build up a quick lead with some well worked scores. Coolkenno worked their way up the field on a few occasions but could not manage to convert their efforts into points. The second half started with AGB leading 2-7 to no score. The Coolkenno midfield mange to get quality ball to their forwards and they were rewarded with a score. The Arklow girls had to step up their attack and took all scoring opportunities that came their way, they eventually ended as victors with a score line of 3-11 to 0-1.

Arklow will now represent County Wicklow at the National Feile held in Kildare during the first weekend in July. Congratulations to winners and well done to all the clubs that took part in the competition.
