Ladies Gaelic Football Congress Takes Place in Newry this Weekend The annual Congress of Cumann Peil Gael na mBán takes place in the Canal Court Hotel, Newry, Co. Down this weekend from Friday 6th- 8th March. Delegates from around the country and overseas will meet to pass a number of motions before Congress and to endorse the inauguration of president-elect Pat Quill. Pat Quill is set to take over the presidency of the association from Geraldine Giles who has held the position since 2003. Quill previously held the position of association president between 1985 and 1988. One of the motions before Congress concerns an amendment to Rule 424. It is proposed that ALL grades be permitted to take a 45m kick from the hand – at present up to and including the U/14 level are permitted to take 45m kicks from the hand (players will have the choice to play the 45m kick off the floor or out of hand at all grades). A new rule imposing a ban on team officials and management smoking inside the pitch boundaries will also to be voted on.
