Loreto College capture Ulster U-14B crown

Loreto Omagh capture the Ulster U-14 B Championship

PAT THE BAKER U- 14B FINAL

Loreto, Omagh 6-13 Our Lady’s, Castleblayney 2-8

Loreto Omagh came from five points down to beat Our Lady’s,
Castlblayney in the Ulster U14B final played in Armagh
on Friday. The Castleblayney school had a dream start
with Amber Lambe, Niamh Brennan (2), Amy Mooney and Rachael
Brennan firing five unanswered points within five minutes.
Loreto’s first score, a nice point was then scored by
player of the match Kerry Mc Garvey. A sweet goal from
Maeve Mc Nulty in the 11th minute and another point from
Mc Garvey brought the sides level entering the second
quarter. Another Brennan point put Our Lady’s back in
front however this was to be the last time that the Monaghan
champions led. Omagh finished the half strongly hitting
some lovely points through Mc Garvey, Ciara Mc Mahon,
Maeve Mc Nulty, Clara Mc Menamin and Niamh O Donnell to
lead 1-7 to 0-6 at the midway stage.

Mc Garvey and Brennan exchanged points early in the second
half and then in the 40th minute Niamh O Donnell hit a
somewhat fortunate goal. Her speculative shot appeared
to be going wide but hit the inside of the post and rolled
over the line. There was nothing fortunate about the next
two Omagh goals. Nicola Donnelly fired low to beat Blayney
keeper Emma Kingham and then substitute Hayley O Donnell
rattled the net from close range. Amy Mooney pulled a
point back for Our Lady’s but Loreto responded with another
couple of points from Mc Garvey and a goal from midfielder
Ciara Mc Mahon. Castleblayney to their credit never gave
up and were rewarded with a goal from corner forward Amy
Mooney. Once again Loreto responded with substitute Sinead
Kelly scoring a goal and a point. Our Lady’s Rachael Brennan
hit the last score of the match, a nice goal however it
was much too little too late and the Tyrone champions
went on to win by seventeen points.
