Lorraine Scanlon is the Lucozade Sport/Irish Independent Player of the Month for April Lorraine Scanlon is the Lucozade Sport/Irish Independent Player of the Month for April.Scanlon was the Player of the Match in both the Pat the Baker Junior C and Senior C All Ireland Post Primary Schools finals. Her stand-out performances ensured that St Joseph’s Abbeyfeale secured two All Ireland schools titles in the same year. The 16-year-old midfielder scored 3-2 against Scoil Muire agus Padraig, Swinford in the Senior C final and scored 1-6 against St Genevies, Belfast in the Junior C final. Scanlon is a member of the Kerry senior county panel and was named Player of the Match in the finals of both the Munster Junior C and Senior C post primary competitions. Lorraine is the daughter of Mary Lane who starred for the all conquering Kerry side of the 1980’s. Mary won five All Ireland titles with Kerry between 1985 and 1989 and captained the side during their 1988 league and championship double winning season. An All Star in 1987, Mary was a formidable half-back who is remembered for her strength and ability to use either foot. Mick Fitzgerald who coached Mary back in her heyday has been impressed by the recent displays of Lorraine whose style of play greatly contrasts with that of her mother. “Mary had tremendous strength and famously put a 45 over the black spot from the deck as they were all taken that way in those days. I have watched Lorraine play a couple of times this year and I saw her play a few times last year as well and the two play completely different styles of football. Lorraine is quite tall and slight and is a very skilful player and doesn’t have her mother’s strength but I think she is a more skilful player overall,” said Fitzgerald. Again following her mother’s footsteps, Lorraine represents the Castleisland Desmonds club with distinction and is destined to shine for the Kingdom in the years to come. Share this Article 0 0
