MEATH LADIES PREVIEW

Bord Gáis Energy National Ladies Football League Semi Final

Meath v Donegal

Sunday 25th April at 3.30pm

Templeport – Bawnboy, Co. Cavan

Revenge is a best dish served cold, and Meath Ladies will be focused on this come Sunday when they take on Donegal in the semi final of the National Football League next Sunday. Meath succumbed to the challenge of defeating the Northeners when they paid the Royals a visit on Easter Sunday, but Meath will be focused on not repeating the same mistakes. Fielding without Elaine Duffy and Kellie Allen against Donegal proved costly, and manager Brendan Dardis will be optimistic that there will be a different outcome for next Sunday’s match with both players playing key roles in the Royals’ success over Down which allowed for qualification into the semi finals.

Meath will have to be careful not to make the same mistakes they did in Páirc Tailteann, and not give away the ball too easily or allow loose marking, both the signs of downfall from Easter Sunday. The influence of key personnel will be critical for Royal success. Geraldine Doherty, Shauna Bennett and Jenny Rispin have been some of Meath’s key players over the course of the league, and their performances will no doubt be influential on Sunday.

What is guaranteed for Sunday is a thrilling contest as both have set their sights on reaching the Division 2 Final where they will face either Armagh or Kildare in the final. The venue for the semi final is ominous for Meath supporters as the last game before Brendan Dardis took the reins was a relegation play off game between the sides where Donegal reigned supreme. Since then Meath have not looked back and are now building at a steady pace and will be hoping it pays off when the Championship begins in June. For now though, Meath set their sights on defeating Donegal on Sunday. All support is welcome.

The Meath Ladies County Board also wish the best of luck to Scoil Mhuire, Trim and Eureka, Kells, the best of luck in the All Ireland Junior Schools Finals played Saturday 24th next. Both schools have members of the Meath county teams on board. Fixtures tbc.
