Thirty nine referees attended the LGFA National Referee seminar in Croke Park on Saturday the 28th of January. The first part of the day was a rules refresher delivered by Lyn Savage. Lyn concentrated the majority of her talk on new rules, that were passed by Special Congress in early January, as was to be expected this created a lively debate! Next up was National Games Development Officer Paula Prunty who went through a number of housekeeping rules and reminded all the referees of the upcoming provincial days which would include fitness and written tests. The final official part of the day saw Karen Togher, National Fixtures Co-ordinator run through how results are to be relayed back to head office for official records. Karen also spent time on match reports and the importance of accuracy. Throughout the day all in attendance participated in the tasks given and got the opportunity to suggest ways in which their training and seminars could be changed to meet their needs. Before retiring for lunch the National President Pat Quill presented medals to all the referees who officiated at All Ireland finals in 2011. Pat left all the whistlers with a reminder that their main duty was to ‘protect players and penalise offenders’. Share this Article 0 0
