The Mountmellick Sarsfields star has been pivotal in the Laois side’s eventful journey towards winning the 2008 Vhi Healthcare Leinster Senior Club Championship and the Laois County Championship, both for the first time in the club’s history. Sarsfields became Laois County Champions at their fourth attempt in five years and dramatically went on to knock 2005 All-Ireland Club Champions Ballyboden St. Endas out of the Leinster Championship. Aileen played a massive game in midfield against the hot favorites for the provincial title and went on to receive the player of the match award against Wexford side Clonee in the final. Speaking at the award presentation in Croke Park, Aileen said, “This has been a massive year for Sarsfields and I’m very proud to have played a part in it. It was a huge disappointment to lose to Inch Rovers in the All-Ireland semi final at the weekend, but they are a great side and that is the level we need to build and work towards in 2009.” Share this Article 0 0
