Referees announced for 2018 TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Football Finals

THE Ladies Gaelic Football Association has announced the referees for the 2018 TG4 All-Ireland junior, intermediate and senior championship finals at Croke Park on Sunday, September 16.

Mayo’s Garryowen McMahon, a native of Monaghan, will take charge of the eagerly-anticipated senior decider between Dublin, the reigning champions, and Cork at 4pm.

This is a first senior final for McMahon, representing the Davitts clubs in Mayo, but Croke Park is not unfamiliar territory as he was the man in the middle for last year’s Intermediate decider between Tipperary and Tyrone.

Among McMahon’s 2018 assignments were the TG4 All-Ireland qualifier between Donegal and Tipperary, and the recent Dublin-Kerry quarter-final at Dr. Hyde Park in Roscommon.

Commenting on the news, McMahon said: “Refereeing an Intermediate Final was obviously a highlight but to be rewarded with a Senior Final is a dream come true.

“There will be pressure associated with the game but you have to embrace it, enjoy the build-up and hope that everything goes well on the day.”

Roscommon’s Gerry Carmody, who took charge of the 2018 TG4 Connacht senior final between Galway and Mayo, will be the referee for the All-Ireland Intermediate final between Meath and Tyrone.

Representing Ballaghaderreen in Roscommon, Carmody, who refereed the 2016 All-Ireland senior club final between Monaghan’s Donaghmoyne and Dublin outfit Foxrock-Cabinteely, is a vastly-experienced official and this will be his first time to oversee an All-Ireland inter-county final at Croke Park.

The TG4 All-Ireland Junior Final will be refereed by Niall McCormack, who hails from the St Conleth’s club in Laois.

This is also a Croke Park All-Ireland final debut for McCormack, who will take charge of the meeting between Limerick and Louth.

The LGFA is also reporting brisk early interest in the 2018 TG4 All-Ireland Finals at Croke Park.
