Suncroft grit is too much for Naas

Suncroft determination beats Naas

Suncroft
2 9 Naas 3 4

On a warm morning in suncroft with underfoot conditions
slippy Suncrofts determination brought them out
with a two point win over a very strong Naas side.
Naas opened the score sheet with a converted point
from a free in front of posts by Sarah Callinen
one which Suncroft cancelled out a few minutes
later with a free by Sinead Mc Bride. Suncroft
then took the game to Naas but for an accumulation
of wides should have been well ahead at half time.
Five excellent points from Sinead Mc Bride and
one by Helen Sexton left Suncroft with six points
at half time a score that did not reflect their
possession and team commitment.

Naas got by keeper Emma Martin twice in this half
one a disputed square ball but some excellent
saves by Emma left Naas with their score of two
gaols two points at the turnover. Emma Hanlon
soloed through Naas backs to score a point the
opener of the half. A point by Naas Leanne O Rourke
and a goal by Mairead Murphy gave Naas a five
point advantage over Suncroft this was not to
be enough to hold off Suncroft. A break out by
Dawn Mc Donald in the backs set Midfielders Gwen
Deering and Karen Ryan off the length of the pitch
handpassing between the two up to the fourteen
yard line where Karen carried on from there and
rattled the back of the Naas goalkeepers net.
This gave Suncroft the inspiration they needed
to go on and win the match, there hard work and
team commitment was paying off. Two points behind
with just four minutes left, the backline of Patrice
Behan, Lyndsey Mc Nally and Dawn Mc Donald through
to the forwards rallied and a lay off from sub
Linda Bracken set Sinead Mc Bride up for Suncrofts
second goal.

Leading for the first time in the game Suncroft
weren’t going to let this game away from them
but Naas didn’t want to give up just yet and down
the pitch the went but they were denied yet again
by the excellent goalkeeping of Emma Martin. Full
back Patrice Behan laid off to Paula Brown who
switched the play cross field to Chloe Foy who
then sent Emma Hanlon on a run to score another
well deserved point for Suncroft. This put the
home team two points ahead at the final whistle.

Best for Suncroft were Emma Martin, Chloe Foy
and Sinead Mc Bride while best for Naas was Mairead
Murphy, and Sarah Callinen. Suncroft play away
to Kilcock next Sunday.
