TG4 provincial championships round-up Compiled by John Fallon The opening round of the TG4 provincial championships produced some stunning results as Tipperary defeated recently crowned Lild NFL Division One champions Cork and Waterford edged out reigning Munster champions Kerry. Kildare opened their Leinster campaign with a win over Meath, while Armagh scored a good win over Donegal. A power-packed second half from Waterford propelled them to a 0-17 to 2-9 over Kerry at Austin Stack Park Tralee. Waterford outscored the hosts by 0-10 to 0-3 in the second period as they used their running power to great effect. KellyAnn Hogan and Brid McMaugh scored 0-9 between them with Síofra O’Shea and Rachel Dwyer getting the goals for Kerry. There was a surprise result in Páirc Ui Rinn as well as Tipperary defeated recently crowned league champions Cork by 0-11 to 0-9. This was a Tipp win built on an outstanding team display as they stuck to their game plan and made it difficult for Cork to break through their defence from start to finish. Aoife Rattigan kicked six points at Summerhill GFC as Kildare opened their TG4 Leinster senior football championship campaign with a hard-earned 0-12 to 0-8 victory over Meath. Sisters Aimee and Blaithín Mackin scored 0-6 between them as Armagh opened their Ulster SFC campaign with a 0-10 to 1-4 win over Donegal. Roisin Rodgers got the goal for Donegal.
