Press Release An Taoiseach and His Excellency, the Japanese Ambassador to Ireland, Launch Suzuki Ladies National Football League New Three-Year Sponsorship Agreement Announced An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern T.D., accompanied by His Excellency the Japanese Ambassador to Ireland Keiichi Hayashi and his wife Hiroko, today launched the Suzuki Ladies’ National Football League for 2006 at a reception in Croke Park. It was announced that Suzuki Ireland has entered into a new three year sponsorship arrangement with Cumann Peil Gael na mBan to sponsor the National League. This will extend Suzuki Ireland’s association with the Ladies National Football League to six years. Speaking at the launch Niall O’Gorman, General Manager, Suzuki Ireland said, “I am very pleased to announce here today that Suzuki Ireland has given a commitment to the Ladies Gaelic Football Association to sponsor the National League for three more seasons, 2006, 2007 and 2008. This is a vote of confidence in the association and allows for more long term planning.” Suzuki first became involved in the National League in 2003 and renewed the sponsorship annually before deciding to make this long term commitment. Welcoming the news, the President of the Ladies Football Association, Geraldine Giles, expressed her delight and appreciation of the support. “We have enjoyed a wonderful relationship with Suzuki during a period of rapid growth for the game. This agreement provides us with great stability and will allow us to continue to promote and develop the game and to ensure that we remain one of the most vibrant sports in this country,” she said. Ambassador Hayashi told the gathering; “I would like to offer my warmest congratulations to the Ladies Gaelic Football Association on the launch of the Suzuki Ladies National Football League 2006. It gives me particularly great pleasure that the Japanese company Suzuki has been able to contribute to the development of traditional Irish sports. This is a further example of the dynamic partnership which happily exists between Ireland and Japan.” The Suzuki Ladies National Football League opens next Sunday with the big clash of the day between the all-conquering Cork team of last year beginning their defence of this title by travelling to play Galway, last year’s beaten All-Ireland finalists, in Division 1B. The other games in that group see Meath play Roscommon and Monaghan hosting Donegal. In Division 1A Kerry play Mayo, Waterford meet Dublin and Armagh meet Tyrone in a big Ulster derby. All 32 counties are represented in the three division league, while eleven counties – Galway, Laois, Cork, Kerry, Tipperary, Mayo, Meath, Waterford, Dublin, Louth and Monaghan – will field “B” teams in their own two group league. The Division One and Two finals will be shown live under floodlights on TG4 on Saturday 6th May.
