TG4 leinster championship finals The TG4 Leinster Junior and Senior finals have been fixed for the Sunday the 18th of July next in Dr. Cullen Park, Carlow. The Junior final will see reigning Junior Champions Louth take on Wicklow with the game throwing in at 1pm, and if required, extra time will be played. This years junior finalists are well acquainted, 2010 will be the third year that both Counties have met in the TG4 Leinster Junior championship final. In 2008 Wicklow were the victors on a score line of 5-8 to 0-16, while in last years final the sides could not be separated at the first attempt, however when the sides met in September in a wet and windy Geraldine Park, Athy, both sides battled hard for the title, with the trophy going to Louth for 2009. Both Counties have held the title on two occasions, it was the property of Wicklow in 1990 and 2008, while Louth were the custodians of the trophy in 1998 and more recently in 2009. On the run in to this years final, Wicklow had a comfortable win over Offaly in the preliminary round, to book their place in the semi final, where they played hosts to Wexford. the home side trailed by seven points at the end of the first quarter, but they turned the game in their favour in the second half to register a seven point win. In the second semi final, Louth over came a determined Carlow side in their semi final game, and although it was a comfortable win in the end, the Wee county did not have it all their own way against a determined Carlow side. The senior final throws in at 3pm, when Dublin and Laois go head to head, Dublin manager Gerry McGill will be hoping to steer the Dublin ladies to their third TG4 Leinster title in succession, while Laois will be fully focused on bridging a four year gap since they last lifted the senior TG4 Leinster Championship trophy in 2006. Although Dublin saw off Kildare with seven points to spare (1-9 to 0-5), in their semi final game, it fair to say that 2010 has been annus horribilus for Dublin, having been relegated to division two in the Bord Gáis Energy NFL for 2011, the Dublin side will be looking to kick start their 2010 TG4 All Ireland Championship title campaign, with a win over Laois in the TG4 Leinster Senior Championship final. However ,Laois are also a county on a mission, they finished third in division one of the Bord Gáis Energy NFL, behind Cork, Galway and Monaghan. Laois registered a two point win over Dublin back in April ( 2-10 to 2-8 ) in the last round of the NFL, the O’Moore County went on to compete in the semi final, where they were defeated by Galway by four points ( 2-13 to 1-12). However, Championship football is a different ball game, all four teams have given great commitment to their respective Counties, and on the 18th of July their sights will be firmly set on being crowned TG4 Leinster Champions for 2010.
