All Ireland Heart Break For Tipp Girls

Last Saturday in Banagher saw Tipps dream of an u16 All Ireland title shattered when they were beaten by Longford on the scoreline of Longford 6-14 Tipperary 3-05. Tipp went into the game in confident form but its was Longford who got of to the best start with a goal and a point in the first 2 minutes. Tipp responded with a goal from Sara Everard and a point from a free from Aisling McCarthy saw Tipp back in the game. However Longford hit a purple patch scoring 1-05 without reply and continued to dominate the game but Tipp to their credit tried to respond and points from Aisling McCarthy and Brid Condon saw the gap close slightly but its was Longford who finished the half the strongest scoring 3-03 to leave the half time score Longford 5-08 Tipperary 1-04. The second half started with Longford starting where they had left off in the first half acoring another goal from the throw in but credit to the Tipp girls they responded very well in the second half and did not drop their heads. A goal from Edel Nyland and a point from Kirsty Downey saw Tipp play some of their best football in the game but Longford responded again with 3 unanswered points and with Tipps Edel Nyland scoring a third goal it was Longford who closed out the game with 2 further points to win on a final score line of Longford 6-14 Tipperary 3-05.

Tipp will look back on the game and probably feel that they did not play to their true potential but this was a very fit and slick Lonford team which would cause a lot of A teams a shock. But no doubt Tipp will be back and with 15 of the side underage again next year they will be contenders again for the 2012 All Ireland title.Well done to the Management team of Manager: Andrew Meaney Selectors: Tony Fox, Carl McCarthy, Thos Condon, Siobhan O Donnell and to the the panel for your time and commitment. Finally a big thanks to Phelan Shoes for their sponsorship of the team.

Development

At a recent meeting in Cahir, Tipperary Ladies Football has formed a new development committee under the Chairmanship of Tipp ladies football development officer Liam Shinnick. The new committee will look at all aspects of ladies football within the county and how we can develop it further.

The main areas looked at are 1. Referees, 2.Player,3.Coaching,4.Clubs,5.Schools.

Over the coming weeks people will be assigned to these different areas and will be given the responsibility to develop the ladies game further in Tipperary. This is a fantastic initiative undertaken by the the Development Officer which will improve all aspects of Ladies Football in Tipperary and add to the great work done already with development.
