Tipperary progress to semi-finals

Tipperary booked their place in the semi finals of Division 3 of the TESCO HomeGrown National Football League by overcoming Leitrim in a thrilling Play off in Clara yesterday.

The wind was a major factor in this match as it blew at the backs of the Leitrim ladies in the first half and they raced into a 1-4 to 0-2 lead after 20 minutes. However, Tipperary stuck to their task and managed to get back into the game approaching half time leaving the scores 0-5 to 1-4 at the break.

The match burst into life in the final quarter as Tipperary had edged their way into a two point lead only for Leitrim to strike their second goal of the match to reclaim the lead with 14 minutes to go. Jen Grant though she had struck the decisive blow for Tipperary when she netted to give her team a 3 point lead entering injury time but Leitrim replied again with another goal of their own. It looked as if this was going to end in stalemate when Tipperary earned a scoreable free which Edel Hanley duly struck over the bar to give the Premier County the victory.

Tipperary will now go forward to face Armagh in the TESCO HomeGrown National Football League Division 3 semi-final on April 28th with Down and Longford meeting in the other semi final.
