U’16 Team Win All Ireland Shield
Congratulations to the Waterford under 16 team who defeated Fermanagh 4-08 to 1-09 on Saturday to claim the under 16 All Ireland Shield. Waterford attacked Fermanagh from the start and goals from Aileen Wall and Aoife Hannon contributed to Waterford’s half time 3 point lead (2-05 to 1-05) to leave the team in a strong position going into the final 30 minutes of the season. This Waterford team has finished strongly in all of their games this season and thankfully this trend continued as two further goals from Aoife Hannon contributed nicely to the Waterford score line. At the final whistle Waterford were crowned All Ireland Shield winners as the final score read Waterford 4-08 Fermanagh 1-09. Aoife Hannon scored a massive 3-3 from play and determined defensive displays from the Waterford backs coupled with a bright and lovely attack ensured Waterford overcame the odds to beat a well fancied Fermanagh outfit. Team captain Clodagh Behan lifted the cup and paid tribute to the entire panel’s effort over the course of the season. Congratulations to the panel and the management team for their achievements and this talented squad will get no doubt improve as they progress through the grades. This victory along with last week’s minor All Ireland win shows that the future of Waterford ladies football is bright and promising.
