Wexford coach Lizzy Kent spreading the Ladies Gaelic Football Gospel in Scandinavia

TWENTY girls, seven nationalities, four Gaelic Football Clubs from Scandinavia, including Copenhagen, Gothenburg, Aarhus and Malmö, and one coach from Wexford, Lizzy Kent, came together on Saturday the 18th of August in the sunny south of Sweden for a coaching session, specially designed for ladies.

A four-hour session was organised through the combined work of the LGFA, the GGE (Gaelic Games Europe) and the hosting Club, Malmö GAA.

Ladies Gaelic Football has existed in Scandinavia for several years, and there have been notable achievements in that time, including the Ladies European Shield won by in 2013.

And yet the feeling on the ground is that more needs to be done to develop the sport in the Nordics.

In that light, Lizzy came all the way to coach all participants in some basic skills, taught participants some of the tricks that she has up her sleeve and nourished their passion for Ladies Football.

Although players’ legs were tired at the end of this coaching session, two questions were asked afterwards: ‘When can we do this again and when is Lizzy coming back?’

Well done to all involved.
