Corofin qualify for Connacht final

The Padraic Pearses team

Corofin (Galway) 4-16 Padraic Pearses (Ros)
2-7

The Ladies of Corofin qualified for a place in the A.I.B.
Connacht club senior Championship final when they comprehensively
defeated Padraic Pearses last Sunday in Corofin. Corofin
dominated the first half with superb marksmanship and a
wonderful style of football. Corofin’s Sheila Fitzgerald
opened the scoring in the first minute with a point from
a free followed by another from play. Helen Carroll, Jenny
Molloy pointed one each and Una Carroll five before Pearses
Stephanie Carty opened their account with a point from play
on the 18th minute.

On the 19th minute the first of four Corofin Goals came
when Una Carroll layed of to an oncoming Sheila Fitzgerald
only to slip it to the back of the net. Niamh Connolly pointed
for Padraic Pearses followed by two from Stephanie Carty.
Corofin’s Una Carroll replied with four and Jenny Molloy
one.

Half time score Corofin 1-14 Padraig Pearses 0-4.

The second half started as the first finished with Corofin
dominating proceedings a Goal from Helen Carroll and a point
from Patricia Gleeson. A revival was hard to compile but
Pearses continued to work and were rewarded with goals from
Jenny Downey and Ursula Brooks and points from Stephanie
Carty. Jenny Molloy and Sheila Fitzgerald finished the scoring
for Corofin with great goals and points.

Final score Corofin 4-16 to Padraic Pearses 2-7.

Corofin overall played very good football with great displays
from solid all round defence with superb fielding at mid-field
from Patricia Gleeson and Diane Murphy and the supply from
mid field was capitalised on in style by all the forwards
but a special mention must go to Una Carroll who tormented
the backs and amassed a personal tally of 1-10. Despite
a good all round performance from Corofin a few concerns
need to be looked into for next weeks final mainly the lack
of finish in the second half. Padraic Pearses had a hill
to climb in the second half but with their backs to the
wall showed Great Spirit.

Best for Padraic Pearses were Stephaine Carty, Ursula Brooks,
Jenny Downey, Aishling Creighton, and Olivia Keogh. Corofin
now play all Ireland Club champions Carnacon Mayo in the
AIB Connaught Club Championship final at the Ray Prendergast
memorial Park in Clougher next Sunday 26th October time
2.00pm.
