As part of European Week of Sport 2020, Sport Ireland facilitated a series of webinars and panel discussions aimed at women and girls and those who support them in sport. Coaching the Female Athlete: Sport Ireland Coaching hosted a presentation and Q&A with coaches to discover how each of them gets the best out of the athletes they coach and the experiences they have of coaching women. Go with the Flow- Menstrual Cycle and the Female Athlete Facilitated by Dr. Sharon Madigan, Performance Nutritionist at the Sport Ireland Institute, Go with the Flow – Menstrual Cycle and the Female Athlete included a presentation from Dr. Kirsty Elliott Sale on her recent research followed by a panel discussion with Dr. Katie Leydon and Irish boxing champion Ceire Smith. Active During Pregnancy This panel discussion featured facilitator Tarja Owens, Naomi Sturdy of Elements Yoga, Yvonne Byrne former Mayo Ladies Goalkeeper and Sinead Brophy of FFS Gyms. The webinar provided insight from current mums, mums to be and experts working in the fitness industry with pregnant women. New Mums and Exercising Led by Fiona Oppermann ths panel discussion featured Tarja Owens and Lynne Cantwell and covered topics such as recommendations for a safe return to exercising for newly postpartum women and things to be aware of and consider. The session will end with a demonstration of some gentle exercises that are useful for new moms.
