Referees play a vital role in our games and without them we would have no matches. It is essential to remember that they are human beings and deserve your respect as you would want for yourself or your family members. Do they make mistakes? Every makes some mistakes including players and mentors but we should be as quick to highlight the correct decisions they make and positive impacts they have on our game.

What about Young Referees?

On Monday, April 15 2019, 62 clubs from 31 counties played at Croke Park during the LGFA’s Activity Day.

Tthe activity day was used for an Under 10 Go Games blitz, with clubs from all over the country selected to participate.

It was a memorable day for the clubs who took part, with memories created to last a lifetime.

Go Games promote full participation and fair play while catering for the developmental needs of the participants.

The LGFA had the games refereed by children from Cumann na mBunscol Áth Cliath.

We followed their journey and the clear message is that Go Games is not only a learning and safe environment for young players, but also for young referees as they set out on their journeys.

Throughout the day, these aspiring young whistlers took on board sound advice from some of our leading inter-county referees, and this experience left them wanting more.
