Dublin Appoints Senior Manager

The Dublin Ladies Football County Board is pleased
to formally announce the appointment of Gerry McGill as the new
Dublin Senior Ladies Football Manager.

McGill, a B.A (Hons.) graduate of University College Dublin and
native of Donegal is a former senior inter-county footballer, and
member of the UCD Sigerson Cup Team. He received a resounding endorsement
when formally ratified by delegates attending the Dublin Ladies
Football Annual Convention in Áras Átha Cliath, Parnell
Park on Tuesday evening last.

McGill brings with him a wealth of coaching and managerial experience,
acquired at all levels in both men’s and ladies codes of the game,
as he now takes over at the highest level in Dublin. Gerry spent
2 years as Senior Ladies Football Manager in Laois and conducted
several coaching assignments with Mayo Senior Ladies Gaelic Football
Team. Gerry coached the All-Ireland Combined Colleges Ladies Gaelic
Football Team over a two year period. His own personal sporting
career as a senior inter-county footballer in both Donegal and Carlow,
together with his coaching experience in UCD, puts him in an ideal
position to assume the challenge of leading the Dubs to future success.
“I have coached numerous Dublin players throughout the years
during my coaching assignments at universities, minor and Club level.
A tactical game plan and playing style will be implemented and training
will be geared to putting this plan in place” explains Gerry.

Congratulating the newly appointed manager, Co. Board Chairperson,
John Hillery informed delegates of the very positive impression
Gerry McGill made on the members of the Dublin Managerial Appointments
Committee. “It is my pleasure, as Co. Board Chairperson, to
join with our newly appointed Executive Committee in congratulating
Gerry on his appointment as Dublin Senior Ladies Football Manager.
His coaching credentials, managerial experience and focused approach
are the precise combination of qualities Dublin now seeks. The Board
is delighted with the appointment and is confident Gerry McGill
is the ideal candidate to create the environment whereby future
success will be achieved” explained John.

Gerry has already assembled a formidable managerial support team
which will focus on various tactical aspects of the rapidly evolving
game in addition to keeping a watchful eye on player welfare issues.
Further details of the backroom team will be announced shortly.
In a function in a south Dublin hotel, the newly appointed manager
was formally introduced to an invited gathering of 68 players –
all potential eligible candidates to compete at senior inter-county
for Dublin. A positive and enthusiastic atmosphere prevailed, as
Board Officers, Pat Ring and Development Officer, Fionnuala Sexton
exuding confidence in their respective presentations that Dublin
is on the cusp of greater achievements. “One only has to look
to the organised structure at underage level in Dublin, where winning
All-Ireland titles has almost become the norm in recent years”
explained a positive and upbeat Co. Chairman.
