Dublin under-14’s maintained their unbeaten record today with a fine win over Leinster rivals Kildare. The first half of this match was closely contested with Dublin having the majority of the possession but failing to put away their chances. In the fourteenth minute of the game Cabinteely’s Catriona McGlip failed to punish Kildare when she shot her penalty kick wide, Dublin had been awarded the penalty after Dublin forward Karen McGlynn was fouled inside the small square.

At the interval Dublin led by only one point, in the second half Dublin introduced Tara Carolan and Jemma Quinn these substitutions proved invaluable as Dublin slowly began to take control of the game. Catriona McGlip made up for her penalty miss when she scored a superb goal within minutes of the restart – shortly after McGlip’s goal Dublin’s second half substitute Tara Carolan added another for Dublin. T

hese goals seemed to spur the Dublin team on with Carlolan and Doborah Geraghty adding two more goals onto Dublin’s tally. Catriona McGlip added three further points before the end bring her personal tally for the day to an incredible 3g -4pts!

Dublin’s defence also had a lot to be happy about as they kept Kildare to two points in the second half with tremendous displays from Sinead O’Mahony at full back and Fiona Hudson at right half back.

Dublin under-16’s encountered their first defeat of their Leinster campaign today following a one point defeat at the hands of Kildare, in a hard fought and closely contested game of football it was the Kildare forwards and their ability to take their scores that was the difference between these two evenly matched teams. Four of Kildare six forwards scored from play today while only three of Dublin forwards were on target.

Dublin can take heart that five of their starting fifteen were unavailable for selection today due to injury and their involvement in a schools All Ireland final. However Kildare thoroughly deserved their victory, Dublin started off well with a point from Kathy white followed by a goal from team captain Caoilfhionn Ni Leidhin, Kildares forwards Sarah Callinan and Donna Berry added points for Kildare. Before the interval Dublin had added two further points one by Natasha Barnwell and a free by Amy McGuinness, Kildare’s midfielder Aoife Holton and centre forward Stacey Connor added points for Kildare but it was Dublin who had a two-point advantage at the break.

In the second half Dublin started to edge in front with a pointed free from McGuinness, a goal from White and another point from Ni Leidhin thus giving Dublin a five point lead but all credit to Kildare they never gave up and fought back, especially Kildare players Aoife Holton, Donna Berry and Sarah Callinan who all contributed scores in the last five minutes to take the game away from Dublin but it was the goal scored by Sarah Callinan that really killed Dublin off she also added a further point from a free to secure a well deserved victory for the lilly whites.
