National U17 Academy Blitz Day Shows a Bright Future

This year’s National Under 17 Academy Blitz Day took place in the GAA National Development Centre in Abbotstown on Tuesday and those in attendance were treated to a spectacle of skill, teamwork and camaraderie. This was the largest ever LGFA Under 17 Blitz with 15 counties in attendance and 18 teams. All teams took part in the group stages with the top team in each group reaching the semi finals of the Championship, 2nd team in each group in Shield semi finals and the third place team in each group entering the semi finals of the plate.

The pitches were certainly busy for the day and with the travelling teams of New York and London adding to the atmosphere the main focus was kept in perspective of developing every player and ensuring that all players that have participated on the Under 17 Academy Programme in the counties was provided with opportunities to play.

In the end there could only be one winner of each section with Limerick taking home the Plate title, Wicklow successful in the Shield Final and finally Dublin were crowned Cup champions after an exciting game with Donegal.

We would like to congratulate all teams involved on the day and thank our volunteers, referees and coordinators, for ensuring that everything went to schedule. The future certainly looks bright with the skill level on display throughout the day and we look forward already to next year!
