Another Successful G4G Partnership with DIT and DCC!

Another very successful Gaelic 4 Girls programme came to an end on Thursday night 10^th December just in time for Christmas. Over twenty local primary school girls took part in the project that is run with DIT, Dublin City Council and the Ladies Gaelic Football Association and in total there were eight DIT students who qualified as LGFA referees and coaches.

Gaelic4Girls is an LGFA programme incorporating coaching sessions with fun non-competitive blitzes aimed at increasing participation in Ladies Gaelic Football. The programme targets girls aged between 8-12 years who are not currently registered with a Ladies Gaelic Football club. The first five weeks of the programme saw all participants develop their gaelic football skills through coaching from students from the Dublin Institute of Technology. These students received six weeks of training prior to this programme and qualified as coaches and referees. In addition the students received event management training which assisted in creating links with the local Community and they then went on to organise a blitz day for the  girls involved. The day saw everyone get an opportunity to experience ladies football in a safe and fun environment.

As a result of participating in this programme all students have gained lifelong skills transferable to many aspects of academic and social situations both inside and outside the school. In addition the students were provided with the opportunity to secure sustainable links with the local schools, sports clubs and councils in the catchment area.
