LAOIS LADIES FOOTBALL NEWS SARSFIELDS TAKE LEAGUE HONOURS Sarsfields claimed Senior league honours thanks to a 2-11 to 0-6 win over Portlaoise at McCann Park, Portarlington on Sunday evening. The Mountmellick side were always in control on the score-board and led by 1-5 to 0-2 at half-time, but this was a strong battle throughout. A goal in either half from Laois Senior player Ciara Burke paved the way for a Sarsfields victory, with Claire Conlon and Tracey Lawlor also in fine scoring form for Alan George and Liam O’Connor’s side. Portlaoise captain Aisling Kehoe tried her utmost to keep her side in touch on the scoreboard, scoring five points but Portlaoise couldn’t break down a resolute always looked likely winners and held out for an 11-point win. After the game Sarsfields captain Alison McEvoy accepted the cup on behalf of her jubilant team mates. Great credit goes to both clubs who also provided half-time entertainment in terms of an Under 12 mini game, with the stars of the future on show. REFEREE: Niall McCormack MINORS END LEINSTER CAMPAIGN Laois Minor Ladies Football Leinster ‘A’ campaign ended in disappointment on Saturday in Timahoe as they came up against a formidable Dublin side, who finished 5-11 to 1-7 winners in the end. Dublin led by 3-7 to 0-4 at half-time, with Laois battling hard throughout. While defeat was ultimately Laois’s lot in the end, it’s not the end of the road for this side, who now have a Leinster ‘B’ Final to look forward to on May 8th. Thanks to the players and management team of Pat O’Sullivan, Linda Hooban, Declan Delaney, and James Kelly for all their efforts throughout the campaign to date, and best of luck in your preparations for the decider.
