Munster LGFA Senior Championship Launch

The Munster Ladies Senior Football Championship commences on Saturday 20th April with Waterford entertaining Cork and Tipperary travelling to Kerry.  In round 2, Kerry host current MLGFA champions Cork on 27th April, while Tipperary welcome Waterford.  In the final round, 4th May, Cork will host Tipperary, and Kerry welcome Waterford.

To coincide with the start of the championship, Munster LGFA recently launched the championship in Fitzgeralds Woodlands Hotel, Adare.

This year’s competition will again be run on a round robin format with each team facing off against each other to earn the right to contest the Munster Final.

Speaking at the launch Munster LGFA President Robbie Smyth said he was really looking forward to the championship with four top quality teams taking part and that he’s anticipating some top-quality games in the round stages.

Mr Smyth said: “The profile of Ladies Football has gone through the roof in Munster over the last few years thanks to the coverage and promotion that counties do, and we are confident the Munster inter-county campaign will see people attending and wearing their county colours and supporting Ladies Football once again.”

Mr Smyth also noted the strength that Munster LGFA has on a national scale, adding: “in 50 years of the LGFA as an Association, the Brendan Martin Cup has returned to Munster counties a total of 30 times, a massive achievement for all involved.”

Mr Smyth also highlighted that on Saturday 18th May, the Senior Championship final will be held in Mallow, and that the game will be broadcast live on the Spórt TG4 YouTube channel.

Also, in attendance on the night of the launch were members of the Limerick and Cork B panels who will compete in the Munster Senior B championship – Limerick, Cork B & Kerry B.

This is the second year of this competition, which is proving to be vital in the development of players from club to county standards.  Last year saw Limerick progress to the TG All-Ireland Junior Final, and members of the Kerry and Cork Senior B panels were drafted onto county senior panels in 2023 and again this year.
