The opening round of the TG4 Connacht Senior Championship went ahead
at the weekend. The opening game played on Saturday afternoon, a
dress rehearsal for the forth coming Suzuki NFL Division 1 Final
witnessed defending champions Galway defeat mayo 1 -18 to 1 – 7
in Tuam Stadium with the ECC timber player of the game going to
Niamh Fahy from Galway.

The second game played on Saturday evening in Castlerea ended in
a 3 – 13 to 1 – 10 victory for the TG4 All Ireland Junior Champions
of 2006 Sligo. Roscommon’s Emer Casey picked up the ECC timber player
of the game here.

Elsewhere in Championship action, the opening round of the Corrib
Oil Under 18 Championship will take place on this Tuesday evening
1st May with Roscommon playing Sligo in Loughglinn at 6.45pm and
defending champions Galway hosting Mayo in Corofin at 7pm. On Friday
evening the first round of the Connacht Under 14 Championship will
go ahead.

The fixtures here also involve the same 4 counties with Roscommon
taking on Sligo – a repeat of last year’s B Championship Final –
in Elphin at 7pm.

On the same evening holders Galway play Mayo – a repeat of the A
Championship Final in 2006 – in Annaghdown again at 7pm.
