Connacht News By suppertime on Thursday evening 26th July – barring
no draws – the curtain will come down on this year’s underage
championships, with the staging of the U – 16A Championship Final.
It’s a unique Final as Galway – with a 100% record – come face
to face with Leitrim in Tuam Stadium with a 7.30pm throw in. the
uniqueness part of is the fact that this will be the first time
that the counties come face to face in an U – 16 decider.

The Campaign started back at the end of May has witnessed Galway
march to the Final undefeated, recording comfortable wins over
all 4 counties including Thursday’s opponents who they dispatched
2 weeks ago. The B Championship Final is also a first Provincial
Final meeting at U – 16 Level for Sligo and Mayo who meet in Castleconnor
on Wednesday evening at 7.30pm. Going into this game both counties
go in on the back of victories, Mayo over Roscommon in Round 4
– they had a bye last time out – and Sligo against A Finalists
Leitrim in Round 5. When the sides met in the opening round back
in may, it was Mayo who emerged victorious with 8 points to spare.
Given both counties records in this current campaign, this game
has the makings of being a cracker.

Mayo are this year’s U – 12 Champions. On Friday evening last
they defeated Galway by 2 points to retain their title.
