Cork and Armagh Lead the Way for O’Neills/TG4 Ladies Football All-Stars Awards

Cork and Armagh Lead the Way for O’Neills/TG4
Ladies Football All-Stars Awards
Unsurprisingly, All-Ireland Champions Cork and Ulster
Champions Armagh dominate the nominations for the 2006 O’Neills/TG4
Ladies Gaelic Football All-Stars. Two in a row champions Cork have
eight players shortlisted, including Captain Juliet Murphy, dual
star Rena Buckley and star forwards Mary O’Connor and Nollaig
Cleary.

Armagh captain Bronagh O’Donnell from Crossmaglen and her
twin sister Alma are also nominated as is star midfielder Caroline
O’Hanlon and forwards Aileen Matthews and Mairead Tennison.
In total, the All-Ireland runners up have seven nominations.

Connacht Champions Galway have no fewer than five nominations while
Leinster Champions Laois received four. Leinster runners up Meath
will be delighted with five nominations as star forwards Grainne
Nulty and Geraldine Doherty are amongst the Royal players chosen.
Dublin, who had a disappointing year, receive only one nomination
through young forward Sinead Aherne.

Junior winners Sligo were rewarded for their All-Ireland triumph
with goalkeeper Katrina Connolly’s nomination while other notable
inclusions include Wexford’s Leona Tector, Limerick’s
Dympna O’Brien and Longford’s Sharon Treacy.

This year the All-Star banquet takes place in CityWest on Saturday
November 18th.
