Dublin v Cork - Tesco Homegrown Ladies National Football League Division 1 Round 5

The TESCO Homegrown National Football Leagues are approaching their climax after 5 rounds of intense action with the league taking shape now following a hectic weekend on the field. We will look at what last weekends results and ahead to round 6 and the implication for the counties.

In Division 1 both Dublin and Monaghan missed out on their chances to secure qualification to the knock out rounds as Dublin drew with Cork and Monaghan were defeated by Kerry. Dublin have now gone one point clear by virtue of their draw with Cork but their failure to win means that they will have to wait for round 7 to confirm their semi final berth. Cork are now on 7 points with 6 points to play for so they will need to win their next match against Laois and will look to Kerry to do them a favour against Mayo to keep their play off hopes alive. At the other end of the Division 1 table Donegal showed a huge improvement against Mayo  in the last round but they did suffer defeat meaning anything but victory against Monaghan will send them into Division 2 for 2015.

In Division 2 Galway have been the pace setters all season and they confirmed their qualification with a win over their nearest competitors, Westmeath at the weekend. The line up of all the semi finalists for Division 2 can be confirmed next time out if Westmeath, Down and Meath all claim wins. At the other end of the table Fermanagh remain rooted to the foot of the table following a pointless opening 5 rounds and if Clare and Kildare were both to be victorious in Round 6 then Fermanagh will play their League football in Division 3 in 2015.

Armagh secured their qualification for the semi-finals in impressive fashion with a resounding win over Leitrim at the weekend and they remain one of only 3 counties to maintain a 100% record to date. Sligo upset Waterford this weekend and now they hold the key to qualification for Waterford, Tipperary and Leitrim. If Sligo lose their next match away to Armagh and there are wins for either Waterford or Leitrim, who play each other, and Tipperary then they will qualify for the knock out stages. Offaly have endured a difficult adjustment to Division 3 since their promotion last year so anything other than a victory against Wexford will see them return to Division 4.

Roscommon are another of the counties with a 100% record at this stage of the season meaning that if they avoid defeat against Louth then their place in the semi-final stages will have been secured. Antrim and Wicklow meet in Round 4 of Division 4 knowing that a win will send either team straight into the semi finals leaving Wicklow and Louth to battle it out with the losers for the final 2 qualifying places.

All the permutation and combinations of results make Round 6 of the TESCO Homegrown National Football League a fantastic prospect with so much at stake for all counties.
