Fermanagh In Convincing Win Over Louth

Suzuki National Football League

Fermanagh 2.12 Louth 1.1

Fermanagh opened their League campaign with a convincing win
over Louth in Irvinestown on Sunday. Fermanagh played with out
a number of their first team regulars but the young and inexperienced
girls proved they were worthy of their selection. Fermanagh opened
the scoring but a goal and point was all that Louth could mange
in the opening half. Fermanagh quickly stamped their dominance
on the game and had scored 1.7 in the opening half. Louth were
kept scoreless in the second half by a hard working Fermanagh
defence. Fermanagh continued to dominate the second half and ran
out comfortable winners.

A point by Caroline Little opened the scoring for Fermanagh
in the first minute of the game; however a point from Sharon Drumgole
and a goal from Mairead Brennan in quick succession stunned Fermanagh
into playing. Points quickly followed from Terri Cassidy, Caroline
Little (Free) and Donna Maguire to draw the game. Fermanagh continued
to work hard and pressurise the Louth defence and were rewarded
with points from Eimir Martin, Carries Mooney and Terri Cassidy.
Cassidy latched on to a long ball played in by Martin and she
finished it into the net and this left Fermanagh going in with
a six point lead at half time.

Half Time: Fermanagh 1.7 Louth 1.1

It took Fermanagh ten minutes to opening the scoring in the second
half, with points from Caroline Little and Carrie Mooney. A through
ball played in by Eimir Martin left Terri Cassidy with the task
of finishing the ball to the Louth net which she expertly did.
The pressure continued from Fermanagh and a brace of points followed
from Marcella Connolly, Sharon Little (free) and Terri Cassidy
to leave Fermanagh with a convincing win.

There were good displays from Edel McGovern, Aine McBrien and
Glenda Fitzpatrick in the defence by keeping Louth scoreless in
the second half and Tara Hughes dominated midfield. The forwards
proved to be a constant thorn in the Louth defence and in particular
Terri Cassidy, Eimir Martin and Caroline and Sharon Little
