Cavan based referee, Maggie Farrelly, has created history by becoming the first woman to officiate in a men’s intercounty football match. Farrelly has already established herself as one of the top LGFA referees in the country having taken charge of All Ireland Junior Final in 2007 between London and Kilkenny along with the recent TESCO Homegrown Intermediate Club final between Parnell’s of London and Cahir from Tipperary. Farrelly is a product of the LGFA Referee Education Development Programme. The programme consists of three levels with Level 1 being an introduction to refereeing, Level 2 acts as a refreseher with emphasis on continued development and Level 3 results in acceptance to the national panel of referees.
