Foxrock-Cabinteely Medal Presentation On Sun 7th March, the boys and girls of Foxrock Cabinteely GAA came to Johnstown GNS to receive their medals but got a lot more than they bargained for; waiting in the wings to present the silverware for another superlative performance in 2009, was Ryan Tubridy, casually dressed and no big desk to be seen for miles! Completely at ease, he addressed parents, guests and players, about the joys of sport while at the same time praising the volunteers for their hard work. Winners and runners-up medals and certificates were handed out to our under 10s girls right up to the minors. Even our first boys’ Go Games Under 9 squad came along to get their photo taken with the iconic TV and radio personality. There was much shaking of hands and a good deal of laughter and excitement as each boy and girl came up to collect their prize. For the lucky ones there was the added bonus of Mr Tubridy captured on their mobile, and an autograph to show their friends on Monday at school! Pat Ring, the Club Chairman and Schools coach, praised the efforts of the schools involved with the club and thanked them for their hard work and close co-operation with the club. The dedication and commitment of Bernie Bolger, retiring from club duties, was rightly rewarded as Mr. Tubridy presented her with a voucher and commemorative plaque on behalf of the club. Mr. Patrick Mooney from the Glennoggin Community Employment scheme which supports the activities of the club at Kilbogget Park was also given a small gift and plaque as he is shortly about to retire from the scheme. The girls from the juvenile squads who assist at the Nursery/Academy every Saturday were presented with their attractive new hoodies ‘uniform’ and modelled them for all to see! Before the curtain came down, a vote of thanks took account of the people who had ensured the day was a resounding success. The committee of Ger Winstanley, Imelda Callaghan, Kay Donnelly, Denise Connor and Derek McArdle who also acted as MC for the afternoon. Kay also played a pivotal role in organising an entertaining slide show of ‘Performance and Highlights 09’ and together with Paul Sherwood had the memory cards on their cameras working overtime! Eamon Dempsey did us proud with his hot buffet complemented by platters of sandwiches from the mentors. A bouquet was presented to Caroline Quinn, the Principal of the school and her staff for their preparation on the big day. For the adults they went home with their glossy Newsletter, courtesy of Snap Printing Donnybrook-for the children it was inevitable that there was going to be “one for everybody in the audience”’ and every boy and girl received a Foxrock Cabinteely souvenir wristband for a day they will never forget …and thank you Mr. Tubridy!
