The Tyrone full forward was instrumental in her county’s win over Ulster rivals Armagh in the quarter-finals of the TG4 Senior Ladies Football Championships. Armagh had comprehensively beaten Tyrone in the Ulster final in July but a completely different Tyrone team turned up in Mullingar in August and Gemma Begley was the star turn on the night. The An Charraig Mhor forward scored 3-06 against Armagh as her side went on to win by an impressive nine point margin. The 22-year-old has subsequently added to her impressive Championship scoring tally with a further 1-04 against Mayo giving her a total of 7-17 from five championship matches. Speaking at the Award presentation in Croke Park, Begley said, “Everyone is disappointed after losing to Mayo but we got very close to an All Ireland final and next year we hope to get to the final and win the Ulster title along the way. Winning an award like this just goes to show that Tyrone are good enough to compete at the top level.” Share this Article 0 0
