Great weekend for Ladies Football at Asian Gaelic Games

The 17th Annual Fexco Asian Gaelic Games took place last weekend, October 26-28th, at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Estate in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The ever popular games again drew a great attendance with a large representation for Ladies Gaelic Football.

21 Ladies Gaelic Football teams from right across Asia travelled to Kuala Lumpur for the annual celebration of Gaelic Football. Countries including China, Japan, Thailand, Oman, the United Arab Emirates and host country, Malaysia, were represented.

The 21 teams were split into 4 divisions with the top teams progressing to the final. Singapore’s A team overcame Seoul Gaels A in the Ladies A Cup after a convincing performance in the final. Orang Éire A enjoyed a hard fought victory over Beijing in the B final winning by only 2 points. Goals proved decisive for Thai GAA as they had a 3 point victory over Taiwan in the C final and in the all-Singapore D final the Singapore D team overcame their C team by 6 points.

A fantastic weekend’s football was enjoyed by all as LGFA CEO, Helen O’Rourke, testified ‘This was a special weekend for Ladies Gaelic Football, to see so many women come together to play our game is amazing, there are plenty of talented footballers in Asia. There is no better demonstration of the appeal of Ladies Gaelic football than seeing so many ladies here this weekend enjoying the football, making new friends and acting as great ambassadors for their sport. It is especially notable that many of the players have never set foot in Ireland but have really taken to the game.’
