Kerry and Galway can't be separated

The top 2 in Div 2 of the Tesco Home Grown National Football League finally played each other in Killarney and there was nothing between them at the final whistle. The visitors played with a very strong wind in the 1st half and were 2 pts up by the 6th min but conceded 2 goals by the 9th min as Kerry began to settle.

Galway however began to kick some quality points and had taken the lead by the 14th min only for Kerry to get another goal to claim the lead once again. The Girls from the West never panicked and were rewarded in the final minute of the half when, after some brillant play, no 14 Roisin Leonard smashed the ball to the net.

Galway started the 2nd half the better and scored a couple of points to increase their lead by the 9th min. Kerry now stepped up the pace of the game and they scored 8 pts without reply as the visitors found the going against the wind very difficult.

As the clock ran down Galway set up a rare attack and 2nd half sub Marie Brennan found herself clear on goal only for her shot to just go over the crossbar. From the kickout Galway won posession and Annette Clarke ratteled the back of the net in the 3rd min of injury time to level things up. Speaking with Manager Barry Downey after the match, he was delighted that the girls kept their unbeaten record and were now looking forward to a semi final against Kildare on April 28th.
