Kerry Into Next Round of TG4 All Ireland Championship

Kerry Into Next Round of TG4 All Ireland Championship

Kerry survived a late Mayo comeback to win their first match of the year and secure a 2nd round qualifier against armagh on Sunday next 8th August at a venue to be decided.

Kerry were level with Mayo after the first 30 mins in a fiercely competitive match but slipped behind to a Cora Staunton goal early in the second half but points from Sarah Houlihan,Lorraine Scanlon, Patrice Dennehy, Louise Ni Mhuireachtaigh and a great solo effort from Breeda lane put them in the driving seat until a tense final 5 min fight back from Mayo reduced the gap to one, a lead Kerry hung to and deserved their victory.

Overall a great result that comes at an encouraging time in Ladies Football However few in the panel will need reminding that a squandering of scoring chances could have come back to haunt this young team but these lessons will be learnt and Kerry will be in the next round and one win away from a Q/F spot.

Listowel are Junior Munster 7’s Champions

Listowels year just get better having won Division 2 of County League, Reaching the County Junior A Final and on last Saturday they overpowered the best in Munster to Capture the Munster Junior Sevens at Cahir.

Kerrys lone representative flew the flag with distinction and their excellent Sevens style play was the talk of the Tournament.

Having too much fire power for Cahir and Moyle Rovers in the group stages, Listowel progressed past a tough Glanmire outfit only to come up against a very good Tramore outfit in the Semi Final but turned a 5 point deficit into a 6 point winning margin to get them a final versus Carriigtwohill. The Cork team never got close to Listowel in the final and Jim Galvins side had too much and Miriam O’Keefe collected another award for the trophy cabinet.
