Kerry Ladies Football Novice Final

Beale prove too strong for spirited Dromid

Beale 1-8 Dromid Pearses 0-3

Beale took the first silverware of the Ladies season last Wednesday night at Caherselee in Tralee winning the County Novice title from Dromid Pearses.

Both Teams had good form coming into the Final and having never played against each other before this was going to be a tough game to call. It was Beale who proved sharpest in the first half and went in at half time 0-4 to 0-2 and in truth would have been the more disappointed of the 2 sides as they missed many good chances. Clancy, Sarah Griffin, Gina Sullivan and Caitrin Griffin all found the range for Beale with 2 frees in reply from Fiona Ni Chonchuir the only scores in a first half where both sides’ defences were on top.

Dromid Pearses pressed early in the second half and goal chances presented themselves but were not taken while Beale on the counter tacked on another 2 points from Sarah Griffin and Heather Moran kept the southerners at bay. Ni Chonchuir added another pointed free to bring the game back to 3 points (0-6 to 0-3) but heading into the final 10 mins it was Beale that took over and pressed on with Captain Gina O’Sullivan and Jo Jo Sullivan adding a further 2 points.

Indeed it might have been more only for Eileen Garvey in the Dromid goal who was faultless all night could not get to the end of the clincher goal from Heather Moran. So it was jubilant celebrations from the Beale supporters at the final whistle to greet a well deserved win.

The result is a continuing positive for North Kerry Ladies football and Beale now follow in the footsteps of Listowel Emmetts and Finuge/St.Senans as county champions. On a night of some great displays Manager John Farrell would have been happy with the performances of Michelle O’Rourke,Sarah Griffin,Gina O’Sullivan, Jo Jo Sullivan, Marie Griffin and Noirin Hitchen who came to their rescue in goal on 2 occasions in the first half when a Dromid goal could have changed the game.

On a tough night in front of the posts it was the Dromid defence who stood out with Eileen Garvey in spectator form between the posts where Debra Ni Shuilleabhain, Aisling van der Velde, Niamh Ni Shuilleabhain and Fiona Ni Chonchuir battled hardest.

The improving promotion of the Ladies game in the county was further evident on the night with a well produced programme and the growing attendances.
