The twin strike force of Sarah Harrington &
Emma Swayne were the principal reason that Midleton emerged victorious
in this East Cork u14A league final played on Thursday evening at
Rostellan. The game, played in very wet conditions,proved exciting
as both sides were determined to win. Glanmire opened the scoring
with a pointed free on the 3rd minute from Rita Crowley but this
was quickly cancelled out by Emma Swayne.

Some great combination play between Midleton captain Lydia Williams
and Sarah Harrington saw the latter put Emma Swayne in for a Midleton
goal.With the winners defence superbly marshalled by Kate Harrington
and Orlagh Farmer the Glanmire forward line found it difficult to
open them up.Indeed the Midleton girls were much more productive
in front of the posts employing the short passing game to good effect
and not being afraid to take a score when presented. At the short
whistle Midleton led

1.05 to 0.01. 

Despite the heavy rain that fell Glanmire emerged hungry in the
second half at put enormous pressure on the Midleton defence.
Led by captain Emer O’Connell and urged forward by full back Aileesha
McElhinney the Glnamire girls enjoyed a lot of possession. However
they failed to turn this into scores apart from a well taken goal
on the 44th minute by Laura Barry. Meanwhile Emma Haughney, Emma
Swayne & Sarah Harrington continued to punish any defensive
lapse in the Glanmire defence. Two well worked goals from the
boot of Lydia Williams and Emma Swayne finally put paid to a brave
second half response from Glanmire & Midleton were deservedly
crowned East Cork U 14 A league champions.
