St. Catherine, Armagh1-8 Holy Trinity, Cookstown 3-5 Three
second half goals and a string of fine saves from player
of the match Sinead Mc Vey was the foundation for Holy Trinity’s
win over St. Catherine’s in a highly entertaining final
played in Madden yesterday. Holy Trinity started strongest
and after two missed chances they opened the score when
Clodagh Quinn fired over in the third minute. St. Catherine’s
leveled through Laura Mc Keever and then went ahead when
Nadine Campbell pointed. The Armagh side should then of
went further ahead but Sinead Mc Vey in the Holy Trinity
goal pulled of the first of a number of amazing saves. Laura
Mc Creesh and Eimear Brady exchanged points before Holy
Trinity hit three consecutive points from Mc Creesh (2)
and full forward Jenny Harley.

St. Catherine’s were then dealt a major blow on the stroke
of half time when they lost tough defender Niamh Bratton
to a knee injury. Nadine Campbell did have the last say
of the half to leave the midway score 0-5 to 0-4 in Holy
Trinity’s favour. The Tyrone champions had a dream start
to the second half with the excellent Mc Creesh netting
from their first attack. St. Catherine’s to their credit
replied instantly with Sarah Conlon and Colette Mc Sorley
both pointing however when Jenny Harley struck two goals
in the 39th and 48th minute the game was effectively over
as Holy Trinity now opened an eight point lead. In the final
twelve minutes St. Catherine’s threw everything at Holy
Trinity and while they scored a goal and two points through
Mc Keever, Campbell and Leanne Mackle it was too little
too late as Holy Trinity held out for a three point win.
